The Grundig Satellit 2100 has been in production from 1976 - 1979. This fully solid state set can be operated from batteries, from the internal mains power supply or with a Dryfit accumulator.

The portable set was with 46 x 27 x 12 cm slightly bigger then it's predecessor and has a weight of 6,3 kg without batteries.
On the right side of the front panel, You find the horizontal non-bandspread dials for long-, mediumwaves and the SW1 / SW2 tropical band segments, the tropical band dials won't give You bandspread tuning capabilities. In the middle window, You find the bandspread dials for the eight shortwave segments each switchable from coarse tuning (with small overlap, thisgives the set continuous coverage) to bandspread tuning. In the lower window, You find the VHF band dial.
Small switches left of the dial windows operate the small - wide IF filter switching (this switch tends to have contact problems which will cause poor reception), continuous coverage and bandspread switch and AFC switch.
The volume control and the separate bass and treble controls are improved rotary controls which will last for long years.
A row of pushbuttons at the top of the set will switch it on, let You choose the desired band segment and activate the second tweeter speaker and the external antenna connector.

A socket lets You attach an external "SSB unit", this will enable the set to receive CW / morse code transmissions an the amateur bands.

The double conversion design of this set allows acceptable reception quality of the signals of the major international broadcasters on the shortwave bands. The double conversion design will keep unwanted spurious signals and crossmodulation effects away. The calibration of the bandspread dials is a bit better then in earlier sets, but locating a frequency nearer then 10 - 20 kHz will be a challenging task. With bandspread switched off, the dial marks are far too coarse to directly tune in to a desired frequency. As there is no bandspread on the tropical 120 - 60 m bands, the Satellit 2000 will not be the set of choice.
I consider the Satellit 2100 as a collectors radio, that gives You the possibility to listen to Your local AM stations and some international signals, it's not a decent DXing machine but will give You good FM reception at superior audio quality.
